We were as surprised and saddened as anyone when The CVC Report vanished from the scene in the winter of 2005. Nobody is going to "replace" them, and it's not our intention to try. The goal of MVP is to reopen, and to keep open, the lines of communication in the music video community that were disrupted by the sudden absence of CVC. That's what we're about, when you boil it all down.
We will solicit and post current playlists. This is to let programmers know what their colleagues are programming. We might compile charts, but we don't plan to be about charts to the extent CVC was. Our goal is to be a center for communication, not an arbiter.
We plan to keep ourselves aware of all musical styles, not only those we personally listen to regularly. For this and other reasons, we plan to actively solicit and to include contributions from members of the music video community.
We recognize that the days when a successful music video needed a five or even a six figure budget are a thing of the past. One of our goals is to work with producers and directors to get their videos out to the masses; another is to provide a forum where those same producers and directors can connect with bands and labels in need of their services.
We give a nod of respect to MTV, Fuse, and the other national and international outlets, and we promise not to neglect them; but our primary focus will be on the "second and third" tiers of music video outlets: regional broadcast & cable, internet, Video On Demand, retail pools, colleges, and the like.
We're in a unique position to do all of this - as HIP Video Promo we've established and maintained friendly relations with many in the music video community, and we'll continue to provide all of the services HIP has been known for. We'll also expand our horizons, under the aegis of MVP, in an effort to better serve all of you in the music video community. We have a vested interest in making sure that the cumulative force represented by music video (producers and programmers alike) continues to grow in influence in the music industry as a whole.
