Channel Zero
Channel Zero in Atlanta, Georgia is more than just a music video show. It's entertaining television that happens to feature music videos. Unlike most video programs, there is no permanent host. Rather, each episode is hosted by a band who’s work will be seen that episode. Past hosts have included Cursive, Feable Weiner, The Soviettes, and many others. In addition to introducing their own videos, the guests take an active part in determining the playlist for their episode.
Producer Jeff Clark has a large collection of 1950s and 60s vintage educational films, and one of these is selected for each episode. Those too young to remember when these things were actually shown in schools all over the country can be forgiven for their incredulity that people once took them seriously. (The titles include "Are You Popular?", "Why Vandalism?" and "Atomic Energy Can Be A Blessing".) Channel Zero's editors take segments of the selected film and cut them in among the videos and the guest artist’s host segments. The result is a unique brand of music video entertainment.
